This post is filled with ideas for fine motor skills activities for older kids. Sometimes fine motor activities can feel a bit young so I set out to look for ideas to use with older kids. (For Preschool Age Click Here)
Try these with your kids or students. They’ll work on fine motor skills and not even realize it.
If your kid is like mine they are beyond the age of tweezers, pompoms, and sensory bins, but it’s good to still be working on those fine motor skills.

I like the Triggle Game, because not only is it that sensory, but an actual game! So the goal is for players to pull elastic bands to be the last line to create a triangle. The player that has claimed the most triangles wins. (Similar to the paper and pencil box connection games from our younger days.)

String Art! You can either buy a kit like this that already has everything you need or go for it with a board, nails, string, and an imagination.

I mentioned Origami in our Boredom Boxes, but really origami is a great fine motor, especially for older kids. In fact, I even found a fun Pokemon Origami my older kids love.

This is an easy one, Fidgets. What kid doesn’t love fidgets these days? I found these zipper ones actual at Dollar Tree, but these along with many others can be found on Amazon.

The Rainbow Loom. These tiny rubber bands being pulled and laced together, are great for fine motor skills. Even better kids get wrapped up in their creativity and have something that they love and have to give their friends. (Tip – Make sure to get the refill, they’ll want all the colors and they can go through those little bands fast.)

This “Choose Friendship” is just a fancy upgrade from our friendship bracelet-making days. I remember my days having just a safety pin and a board with my strings. But, I really like this as it holds the op, but also provides a holding spot and makes it easier not to lose their place.
These should be a fun creative list of ways to keep your older kids working on fine motor development, and so fun they won’t even catch on.
